This department consists of a combination of economic geology, petrology and hydrology majors. According to the programs approved by the university, this department intends to establish environmental and geological majors in the future. Minerals and water are the basic needs of human beings. With the growth of population, the need for these resources is more than before and the use of resources needs to be accompanied by scientific studies. Department of Mineral and Ground Water Resources conducts basic studies in petrology and mineralogy in the field of petrology, and studies mineral resources through the field of economic geology.

The program of hydrology of this department also pays special attention to hydrological studies and the study of relevant patterns and models.

Conducting applied research related to industry is one of the main priorities of this department. Research related to deposits such as copper, gold, iron and rare and strategic elements in Iran, as well as applied studies on natural raw materials required by the building stone, pharmaceutical, cement and concrete industries are examples of studies conducted in recent years

Geochemical explorations of metallic and non-metallic deposits as well as environmental geochemistry are among the interdisciplinary activities of economic geology in cooperation with the field of petrology and hydrology.
